About

Krista Harris is a fifth-generation Californian with roots in San Diego and a deep love for Santa Barbara, the place she’s called home ever since moving there to attend UC Santa Barbara. She earned a B.A. in Film Studies, but it was storytelling in all its forms—on the page, in the kitchen, and in the community—that truly captured her imagination.

Her career began at a local newspaper and evolved through roles as a writer, editor, graphic designer, and creative director in the corporate world. But it was the pull of local food—discovered in the farmers markets of the mid-1980s—that gave her the idea to blend her publishing and food interests together.

In 2008, with her husband, Steve Brown, she co-founded Edible Santa Barbara, a quarterly magazine celebrating the region’s rich food culture. For 16 years she served as publisher and editor, telling the stories of farmers, chefs, and makers who shape the Central Coast. In 2024, she sold the magazine to one of her contributors and passed the torch so she could embrace her calling as a full-time writer.

Krista remains active in the Santa Barbara community. She serves on the Santa Barbara Culinary Experience Advisory Committee in partnership with the Julia Child Foundation and is a member of the Los Alamos Theatre Group. She splits her time between Santa Barbara and Los Alamos with her husband, Steve Brown.
